CHRISTIAN BIRD MOTORSPORTS BACK ON THE PODIUM WITH MACY WILLIAMS AT CHALLENGE OF THE AMERICAS

After scoring two podium results in the opening round of the 2020 ROK Cup USA Challenge of the Americas with Liam Letzsch, it was Macy Williams’ turn to stand on the blocks during this past weekend’s event. Taking place at the Calspeed Karting Center in Fontana, California, Williams scored a sixth-place result on Saturday and rose to the challenge on Sunday to finish second, her best result of the 2020 season to date.

“Another great weekend in California and another awesome event put forth by the Challenge of the Americas staff,” explained Christian Bird. “As a team with three competitors, we were able to score one podium, two top-five finishes and four top-ten results. Not too bad for a small team from Colorado.

Throughout the weekend, ROK Junior driver Macy Williams improved each race day to have her best drive of the season. Qualifying ninth on Saturday and finishing eighth in the prefinal, Williams drove to a sixth-place result in the main event. Eager to get back to work Sunday, the young female improved on all of her previous day’s results. Qualifying eighth and driving to fifth in the prefinal, she levelled up three more positions in the main event to finish second and celebrate on the podium that afternoon with her Christian Bird Motorsports squad.

Fellow ROK Junior driver Deanna Hoffman had a trying weekend behind the wheel of her FA Kart. After qualifying eleventh and failing to finish Saturday’s main event, Hoffman returned Sunday with a fourteenth-place effort in qualifying and after a difficult prefinal, found herself with a twelfth-place result at the end of the day

Entering the event with momentum from two podium results in Tucson, ROK Senior competitor Liam Letzsch had to work hard to fight his way to a pair of top-ten finishes. Finishing tenth in Saturday’s prefinal after an eighth-place result in qualifying, Letzsch rebounded to salvage some valuable championship points driving forward in the final to finish fifth. Sunday proved to be a little tougher for the senior level rookie as an eleventh-place effort in both qualifying and the prefinal only netted him a ninth-place finish at the end of the final day of competition.

Bird added, “A huge congrats to Macy. She drove very well and hopefully this will bring some confidence and momentum for our next event. We will now take shift our focus to the Challenge of the Americas finale and look to finish the season strong.”
